Human bio: What inspires me is listening to other people's stories. That aspect of storytelling is my favorite part of working in communications. Each person has a story to tell, and each of these stories holds power to effect change – whether it's at the personal level, the community level, the organizational level, etc.

Professional bio: Katie Bemb works in science and tech communications at her alma mater, the University of Maryland. She holds two roles at UMD: digital communications manager for the College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences and communications lead for Break Through Tech DC at UMD.

With more than six years of experience handling communications for various nonprofits, institutions and community organizations in the D.C. Metro area, Katie is currently working toward her Master’s of Public Management in UMD’s School of Public Policy. Some of her favorite subjects include grammatical conundrums, political and historical controversies, and anything dog-related.
